BABY PUPPY DOG (2 entries) – Only 2 weeks in age difference. 1st Dog - perhaps a little more compact without being regarded as short in body. Moved more correctly. 2nd Dog - A little loose in tail carriage. Head and body O.K. but let down by behaviour.
PUPPY DOG (1 entry) - 8 Months old. A nice puppy for his age with good head, body and coat. Will improve with age.
JUNIOR DOG (2 entries) - Both good ones. 1st dog a little more alert in expression. 2nd dog a little lazy with his ears, this robbing him of full alert expression. 1st dog a better mover. Both with good coat and correct size.
INTERMEDIATE DOG (1 entry) - Good mover. Good expression but lets himself down with tail carriage.
LIMIT DOG (3 entries) – 1st More true to type and better behaviour. 2nd Let himself down by having been obedience trained and continued to sit when required to stand for examination and when required to show himself to advantage. 3rd A little on the rangy side compared to the other 2 dogs. Would have liked a little more spring of rib.
NZ BRED DOG (3 entries) - 1st dog an easy winner. Good head, coat and correct feet (easily the best feet of all exhibits on the day. Untrimmed, and with plenty of hair between the toes, without being untidy) 2nd & 3rd dogs - not much between these two. Dog No 2 had slightly better expression and movement. Both of these dogs were a little rangy compared with the first dog.
VETERAN DOG 1 ENTRY - 14 years old. Showing his age in movement but would have been a very good dog and a good winner a few years ago. As with all Spitz breeds of this age, his tail has lost its bloom and feather. Lovely to see the old dog still able to get around even at a reduced pace.
OPEN DOG 3 ENTRIES - 1st and 2nd dogs were eventual Challenge and Res. Challenge winners. Not much between these two. Better feet on 1st dog and moved better in front. Both good specimens of the breed and well worthy of the awards. 3rd dog paid the penalty for behaviour making examination of the dog rather hard.
In the Challenge line I had my mind on the NZ Bred dog for the award or at least the Res. Challenge, but behaviour at the time cost him his chance.
BABY PUPPY BITCH (1 entry) - A good one, has everything going for her, good head, coat (for age) and expression. A good mover. Easy winner for Baby Puppy in Show
PUPPY BITCH (4 entries) - 1st bitch (my eventual Best in Show winner), a lovely bitch with beautiful expression and excellent movement. Correct head and body, good feet (for her age), true bitch coat without being overdone. 2nd bitch A very nice one and lost on expression and failed to settle down at the right time. 3rd Would have liked her a little shorter in comparison to the first 2. 4th Only 6 months old and still a little loose in front but should improve with age.
JUNIOR BITCH (2 entries) - Both nice bitches. 1st one had better tail, feet and a better size. 2nd bitch required a little more ruff behind the ears to complete the framing for the head.
INTERMEDIATE BITCH (3 entries) - Again 3 nice ones. 1st Bitch had a little better tail with more plume and feathering and moved better than the 2nd and 3rd. Would have liked to have seen the 3rd slightly smaller for a bitch.
LIMIT BITCH (1 entry) - Good type, but requires much better tail carriage. Carries the tail too high off the back.
NZ BRED BITCH (1 entry) - Again quite a good type but I would have liked her to have had more ruff behind the ears to complete the picture.
VETERAN BITCH (1 entry) - For her age, this bitch is a very good mover and still able to hold her own in any company. Lovely type of bitch, great head, good coat, lovely soft expression so much required in this breed.
OPEN BITCH (2 entries) - Both nice types, 1st bitch the better mover, good bitch head, body and coat. This bitch my Reserve bitch and also Reserve in Show. Would have pushed the Puppy really hard for the Challenge if she had performed a little better at the required time. Robbed herself of higher awards by not settling down fully. Even so she outmoved the dog for Reserve in Show. 2nd Bitch beaten only on movement. Good head, body and tail.
Thank you again for a wonderful day and for your hospitality towards both my wife and myself.
